ERM invites you to celebrate Estonian Independence Day on 24 February!
Monday, 21. feb 2022
Newly-opened exhibition, guided tours, concert, flag-raising ceremony.
On 24 February, we are looking forward to welcoming everyone to the Estonian National Museum! There will be activities for the whole family. All of the exhibitions, the restaurant and the museum shop are open.
The permanent exhibition "Encounters" is free for everyone on 24 February, and on that day the doors of the museum's repository will be open, where the exhibition "Practical Beauty" will for the first time showcase a large part of the ERM's collection of handbags, money bags, carrier bags and pouches that were part of folk costumes. On display are more than 1,500 items from nearly 30 different types of bags. The exhibition gives a sense of the scale of the ERM's collections, but it is also an exhibition of Estonian accessory, fashion and design history. Reet Piiri, curator of the ERM's Centre for Folk Culture Training and Information, will talk about the items on display at 14.00 and 15.00.
72 pairs of familiar Mulg gloves, knitted in the style of the gloves in the collections of the Estonian Folk Museum and Viljandi Museum in support of the Anu Raua Centre, greet visitors at the A entrance. The exhibition "Our Wealth is Gloves" is open.
On the occasion of Estonia's birthday, it's also a good time to step through the ERM's Flag Hall (in the middle of the permanent exhibition "Encounters" ) to see the ERM's proudest exhibit - the first Estonian flag, blessed in 1884.
Two exciting brand-new exhibitions have just opened at the ERM. The exhibition "Journey in Juri Lotman's Semiosphere", dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Yuri Lotman's birth.
All other exhibitions are also accessible with a whole house ticket. We invite you to the art exhibition "Beauty of Colours. Golden Age of Estonian Art from the Enn Kunila Collection". There you can see Mägi, Triik, Laikmaa, Burman, Uutmaa, Vabbe and many other artists. The gallery also features an exhibition of Miljard Kilk's paintings of rocking 70s slideshow portraits and dreamlike fantasy creatures.
The permanent exhibition "Echo of the Urals" at the ERM is also open.
At 16.00 there will be a concert in the bridge area of the ERM, with the participation of the Tartu I Music School Symphony Orchestra, a folklore ensemble, choirs, soloists and a band. Choir music will be contrasted by the multi-talented Tiit Kikas, whose improvisatory interludes interweave electronics and instrumental virtuosity. The concert will take place in the bridge area and is free of charge.
You can also take part in a flag-finding game at the permanent exhibition "Encounters" throughout the day.
Museum Shop: on the spot and online -20% (excluding stamps, gift cards and pre-discounted items).
On the day of the celebration, we will continue to respect the principles of safe museum visiting.
