In 2020 the legendary Tartu Ski Marathon turns 60. The Jubilee Exhibition of Tartu Maraton is open from February 12th until 15.07.2020.
The first ski-hike from Tartu to Kääriku started from Tartu city center on the 16th of January 1960. This was the beginning of one of the most popular public sport event tradition of Estonia – Tartu Maraton.
Within years the small group's skiing trip has grown into a well-known and beloved ski marathon. Tartu Maraton is also known as the Estonian Song Festival of Winter because of its grand proportions and international fame. It brings together thousands of skiing enthusiasts every year from all corners of the World.
The jubilee exhibition is a journey of Tartu Maraton over these six decades. How did a small ski hike grow into a grand international ski festival? Which role has the marathon played in the daily lives of our people and in the promotion of ski sports? How has the event and the participant profile changed over the years? To answer these and also any other questions about Tartu Maraton, visit the marathon’s jubilee exhibition at the Estonian National Museum.
