Tuesday, 02. jun 2020
Exhibition will be open until August 30, 2020.
Juss Piho is a freelance painter, a member of the Estonian Artists'Union and the Painters' Union. He was born in 1963 and has performed at exhibitions since 1988.
After almost 15 years break, his paintings were last seen in Tartu at the turn of 2018 at Pallas Gallery Noorus. The enchantment that remained from there did not give peace until we invited him to exhibit his pictures in our house for the whole summer.
Juss Piho likes to paint figures into an exciting, frozen world, like waiting for some catastrophe. The atmosphere he creates is often compared to the paintings of Giorgio de Chirico, a classic of metaphysical art. However, this is also the only similarity, because Piho is an artist who, in addition to depicting an exciting story, uses color in an enjoyable way. Stunning color combinations can be found in every square centimeter of the extremely thoroughly painted surface. To paint he uses spatulas of several sizes instead of brushes.
According to current extraordinary time, people have disappeared from Piho's recent pictures. Paintings have become even more mystical, expansive emptiness even more mysterious, colors even more sensitive…
