For the first time, an official delegation of Finland’s Sámi Parliament, the Sámediggi, will be visiting Estonia. The delegation will present at the Estonian National Museum an overview of the politics and civil society of the Sámi – indigenous people of Finland. What are the main accomplishments and ongoing challenges facing the Sámi today? What are the most acute topics and developments in current Sámi politics and civic activism? And last but not least, how can Estonia(ns) support its kindred people in their aspirations to realize their rights as indigenous people?
Sámi speakers include Pentti Pieski and Áslat Holmberg (Members of Sámediggi) and Petra Laiti (Chair of Finnish Sámi Youth Organization SSN). The discussion will be moderated by Oliver Loode (Indigenous Peoples’ Development Centre NGO).
The lecture will be held in English.
