World Film Festival - vol 16
Tuesday, 12. mar 2019
The programme makes one dwell on both generally humane as well as today's talking points
The 16h World Film Festival will take place at the ENM from March 18-23. The programme includes more than 60 new antropological documentaries from more than 33 countries.
"World Film Festival connects films, authors and the audience, giving them a chance to collectively discuss the different aspects of being human. We have operated with the aim to include both timeless and generally humane as well as socially acute topics in the programme. Thereat, there are stories that are themselves within these debates, and also stories that have taken the position of a bystander," said the director of the festival, Pille Runnel.
This year, the range of topics include keywords such as sensuousness, body and self reflection, art, current approaches to visual anthropology, finding the future and paradise, globalization and urbanization, resources and environment, truth and lies, relations between humans and animals, and mythology.
During the festival, the audience has the opportunity to meet about 20 film makers from all over the world, e.g. Lisbet Holtedahl, Ed Owles, Niklas Kullström, Katharina Stieffenhofer and others.
The screenings take place in Jakob Hurt's Hall and World Film Hall (A-entrance). Screenings on workdays before 4.30 p.m. are only with English subtitles and free of charge. Tickets to priced sessions are sold in the reception desks of the museum, festival passes are sold on Piletilevi.

The festival is organized by Estonian National Museum, World Film Society and Tartu Elektriteater. Our supporters are Estonian Film Association, Fraktal, Tartu City Council, Finnish Institute in Estonia, French Institute of Estonia etc.
