About Estonia and Tartu
Tartu - city of good toughts
This leafy town of students, intellectuals and creatives brings back sweet, youthful memories to many who once have cycled the city during their student days.
Home to one of northern Europe’s oldest universities, Tartu has a wealth of museums (such as the Estonian National Museum) and an upbeat nightlife. Upon arrival in Tartu’s large Classicist town square you are welcomed by the statue of the kissing students, which stands near museums, cafes and the park on Toome Hill.
Tartu is very compact, with most sights, restaurants and nightlife venues found in a couple of parallel streets. Being the second largest town in Estonia and a hot bed of creative and scientific culture, there is always something on, from theatre performances to concerts and festivals.
Tartu together with Southern Estonia is the European Capital of Culture in 2024. Tartu 2024 is already producing different events and experiences and during 2024 hundreds of bigger and smaller events will take place all around the year.
