The Story of the Estonian Chair
In the spotlight of this exhibition is one of the most widespread and important furnishing elements that no room can go without.
Throughout one century, Estonian architects and designers have designed chairs that have remained invisible to the public eye, yet without which we could not picture how Estonian design has evolved.
The exhibition expands upon the iconic chairs from the furniture history of Estonia. Chairs you can find both in public spaces as well as in many homes; and chairs that have made history in the local furniture design either as unique items or as industrial production.
Some of the unique chairs are also the symbols of time, since limited possibilities determined the number of chairs produced. The exhibition also tells the story of the disruption of modernism, including the period while independent thinking was hindered and furniture design was strictly regulated.
Curators: Harry Liivrand, Lilian Sokolova and Katrin Tammsaar
Producer: Reet Mark (ENM)
The exhibition is created in cooperation with the Estonian Association of Interior Architects and is open January 31 2018 until June 30, 2019 at the Gallery.
